Almost a hundred pupils from 5th and 6th grade from the Ramón y Cajal School accompanied by their teachers, visited the Town hall in Águilas last Monday, 5th of December.
This visit was organized to celebrate Constitution Day. Children were recieved by the Counc illor Juan Ramírez and they presented him with a handmade Christmas Card.
The Mayor, after reading the Christmas Card joked with the children and he encouraged them “to study and to make the most of the time spent in school”.
Afterwards, they continued their visit and walked into the Council Chamber where they were received by the Education Councillor, Clara Valverde. After an animated conversation with all of them she explained how a Plenary Session is carried out.
But without doubt, the funniest and most awaited moment was when the children occupied the Councillor seats and started to read some of the most important articles of the Spanish Constitution.
During the visit, Pedro Maria Martínez who is the Tourism and Festivities Councillor, handed out Christmas Letters to all the little ones and he informed them that they will be able to deposit them in a letterbox that will be installed in the Town hall´s entrance during these next Christmas holidays.
After the visit, the commemoration of the Magna Carta continued at their school with a party where they enjoyed games and pastimes. The Education Councillor Clara Valverde, was also there and joined in the fun.
This year we celebrate the XXVII anniversary of the Spanish Constitution. The text was voted on December 6th of 1978 with a referendum.
Since that day, our Magna Carta has been a milestone in Spanish democracy, it has been the peaceful and stable consolidation of a society living in freedom.
